Weather vs. Mankind
Lightning, hitting the ground like an air strike
marching from Paraburdoo.
Thunder, as loud as atomic bombs blasting above our
heads jogging through Mine Road.
The rain, hitting the backs of our legs like sharp
missiles, crawling down Tamarind Street.
Windows have smashed, fallen power lines, roads
washed out and tree roots exposed.
We shield ourselves with broken umbrellas from the
wild wind and splintering rain.
We take cover under wood benches surrounded by sand
bags that keep the flood water at bay.
As the rain dissipates we see trees lying on cars.
The devastation is over; everything is flat and
silent…
There are no winners!
