100 words- swimming carnival

I stepped up to the diving block, my heart right out of my chest. My head turns to look at my competitors, and they looked as terrified as  I did.  We waited on those blocks for what seemed like hours. Until we dived into the freezing water and the race was on. I felt less scared and my heartbeat slowed right down as I swam further and further.

I was the first girl to touch the wall in my heat. Although I came 3rd in my actual race against the year 6 girls.
I was so proud.

The Life Changing Experience

We all ran out the pool screaming for dear life, my friends and I were so confused why everyone was screaming and running. It's like a tornado is about to happen, I hear the beeping from the Storm Detector warning everyone.

We all ran to get changed, I heard people scream when the thunders 'BANG' reached our ears, I came outside to see people lined up all of a sudden we got told to come undercover, the storm went on, water ran on the ground reaching where we were sitting ' I WANT TO GO HOME' someone yells, kids crying scared of what's going to happen.

We go into the office where its safe, I look around and see a picture it says 'from the pool orphans' the picture calms me down. Minutes passed and I'm one of the last 4 to get into a car and go home!

Boogie Boarding Review

                          Boogie Boarding review

Where to start? This camp was amazing!

We got to go boogie boarding. Just the feel of the ocean was amazing. In my opinion everyone should go to Broome.

But if you do go, you have to go boogie boarding. The best part about  it was the waves.

When I was boogie boarding it took a while for me to get the hang of it but I got it in the end.

17 Years Of Age Is An Appropriate Age for War

I strongly suggest that 17 years of age is an appropriate age to go to war for Australia.

Firstly, a lot of teenagers these days are more fit and agile. This means that on the battlefield, they have more chance of escaping fatalities and explosions.

Secondly, more of the younger teenagers now have more adrenalin in their system. They enjoy activities that involve risk or involve chance of death. A lot of Teens do a lot of things that include fitness, mentally and physically.

A lot of teenager plays games involved in FPS shooting games (First Person shooter) which makes you feels like you’re shooting a weapon. 7/10 People who play these games eventually want to join the Armed Forces. With the knowledge of map coordinates, guns, Strategy, reflex skills and commands shown throughout the levels in the game. It is sure to leave you with some Military education.

If you are 17, have some military skills and some agility, don’t be afraid to join the Armed Forces and have Blast! Even if you don’t go to war you will still be educated and have a good career ahead of you!

Our Disastress Creek

''drip, drop, drip, drop'' that's the sound of rain drops dripping of the bridge railing falling into the creek. The grass is dirty and muddy, there are tadpoles underneath us in the puddles. There are sticks and leaves in the dips causing a blockage and a muddle. Hopefully soon the grass will be fresh and green again for playing in!

You should not go to War at the Age of 17!

You should not go to War at the Age of 17!

I strongly believe that at the age of 17, you should not be able to join the army. You are not mentally or physically ready it could cause death!

Firstly, you are not mentally ready to go to war.You might think you are ready but you will find that you'd be very stressed. If you come home you will get nightmares and may even not be able to bring yourself to go outside of the house.

Secondly, you are not physically ready, you could die because you have to run from a bomb or gas. You might not be able to out run it and the next thing you know you are dead. Imagine the pain that would cause?

Finally, you could die and imagine what it would feel like to watch your friends and family die. It would be too big of a risk of death or injury. Would you be able to deal with the pain of watching the horror of the death of your close friends and family?

Therefore, you’re not mentally or physically ready to go to war. Imagine the pain you would cause your friends and family if you didn't come back. You should not be able to go to war at the age of 17.

Writing Challenge Term 2 - Week 3

Room 5 Hero Headquarters are you ready for the ultimate writing challenge?

Well, your teacher Mrs Rolton thinks you are as she has signed you up for an amazing experience.

Check out the details below...

The New Dragon Rider

Annabeth was terrified of myths and legends.  They made her want to scream.  That was until she found Arya.  Arya? Who's that you might ask.  Well here's the answer, Arya is Annabeth's dragon.

Annabeth was riding Arya when suddenly they sensed the presence of another dragon.  Then she found Kat and Carter.  They all decided to go and try to defeat the turned dragon rider, Galbatorix.

On their way to meet Galbatorix, they had to hop off their dragons.  They ran quickly into a corner and as they turned the corner.
"Hello dragon riders!"  The shade Durza said maliciously.

The Puzzle

Creek!  Went the attic trap door as I climbed in carefully.  I was looking for an old story book for my little sister's show and tell.

A strange and powerful light started to flicker from behind a dusty crate.  I slowly pulled the crate out and tried to grab the source of the light.  I picked it up and it was a thousand piece puzzle.

I tried to drop it but my hands wouldn't let it go.  It was as if my hands were glued to it.  Suddenly my hand rapidly opened the box and made me puzzle the puzzle.

By the time Mum was calling me down for dinner, my hand had one corner piece left.  As I turned the corner piece I realised 'my' story was only just beginning!

The Scary Street

I'm scared to get out of my car in this scary street. The unknown shadow movements intimidates me to turn around and go home to my nice warm bed. The movement of bushes cast the scariest shadows of all time along with reflections of the old school crossing that's never been used.

It's very silent, the only sound is the rain dripping down from the drains on the roof of houses. Some of the lights are flickering in the pattern of a song. There is also a very steep hill that has a slippery slopped road. I started to do a U turn when I saw a man approaching my car. I was terrified and with out any hesitation I forced my foot onto the accelerator and zoomed home.

100 Word Challenge # 4

The prompt this week is:
…as they turned the corner…
Do think about your story before you start to write. A plan can help make sure you get in all your ideas and that they make sense. When you have written it, ‘mumble’ read it to yourself to check that it says what you think it does!

Flooded

Families houses are getting flooded,
Lots of mud,
Over the bridge gushing down,
On the bottom of our shoes,
Dripping wet!
Everywhere, making a huge mess,
Dreadful falling into the river that was formed.

Look Who IS Coming To Town

Marc McBride
Illustrator
Marc McBride has illustrated over fifty book covers and countless magazines, as well as producing artwork for advertising campaigns. He has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television Award for Best Art Director. Marc has had work exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators.

Marc's influences for all his work range from tacky B-grade movies about giant ants from outer space through to the pop artists of the sixties such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and other illustrators such as H R Giger, who created the Alien and the set design for the movie Alien.

Marc's soaring imagination has never been more evident than in the mind-blowing fantasy jacket art he has created for the Deltora Quest series.

Marc says, ‘The medium I used for the series was acrylic paint and inks. Using an airbrush and paint brushes I created the series in quite a traditional way—that is, not digital. I feel that this more organic painting works for me in the creation of people, monsters etc. If I had been asked to create spaceships or futuristic cities perhaps I would have used a computer. Each cover took between three and five days to complete, but, like all illustrators, I always feel I would have liked to spend more time on each painting. Practical reasons, such as deadlines, other jobs, eating and sleeping, make this impossible. Nature has pattern in even the strangest of creatures and I wanted to have this in the Deltora Quest monsters, to give them some sense of reality.’
