Remembrance Day Services

 Remembrance Day

On the 11th of November 2015, it was the 97th anniversary since the end of WW1. An Armistice/Peace Treaty was signed on this day 97 years ago, it is now called Remembrance Day or Armistice Day and celebrated around the world.

To celebrate the anniversary, we had some services across the town and we all stood in silence for one minute at 11am, the rest of the country took this time to remember fallen soldiers and those who have served.

The main two services were at Tom Price Senior High School and another service at Tom Price Primary School. Here at Tom Price Primary School, our very own Room 5 Hero HQ students ran the service by themselves. At the end of the service, they got a photo taken with Jerry, our class mascot with all the poppies and wreaths in front of us.

We had some music that was played by a Didgeridoo, The Australian National Anthem, and The Last Post.  In Flanders Fields was read along with the Ode. Everyone had a part to play in the service, including the audience. Without them, it would have only been Room 5 attending the service.

Thank you to Mrs Rolton and everyone who helped make this auspicious ceremony possible, we would not have achieved a memorable service without you!

World News - Paris

Paris may often be referred to as the ‘City of Lights’ but since the attacks on Friday 13th it is the rest of the world offering light to Paris.

Historical monuments and buildings around the world – including the Sydney Opera House – have been lit up in the colours of the French flag in a show of support and love for Paris.

Many people lost their lives in the attacks that took place around the French capital on Friday night and many world leaders have offered their support and encouragement to France.

Along with the many monuments lit up in French colours, Facebook is supporting Paris by encouraging users to turn their profile pictures the colours of the flag: red, blue and white.

What monuments in what countries have been lit up for Paris?

 Sydney Opera House – Australia

Hint there are at least eleven different countries who have lit up their monuments.

Create a list of what you know and then begin to research.

How many countries did you know about on your list before you researched?

Explain why you choose those monuments and countries you added to the list.

Predict what monuments in what countries, you think will have joined the 'offering light to Paris campaign'.

What research skills did you use to find out about the monuments and why?

Did your answers include the following?

Boogie Boarding Review

                          Boogie Boarding review

Where to start? This camp was amazing!

We got to go boogie boarding. Just the feel of the ocean was amazing. In my opinion everyone should go to Broome.

But if you do go, you have to go boogie boarding. The best part about  it was the waves.

When I was boogie boarding it took a while for me to get the hang of it but I got it in the end.
