Video Game Destruction ''Conner you have two minutes to get off that Xbox!''shouted Mrs Davison"come on just get to the castle kill that dragon and... YEEEEES!" high score beaten, the laptop reported. "Conner you better be of that thing or you'll get it." Conner was already in bed by the time Mrs Davison had got to the top of the windy staircase. The eerie silence was daunting and was only broken by the occasional pluck of water dripping... Suddenly out of nowhere came a huge monstrous beast ripping through the wall like a dog rips up homework. A thousand bricks flew in all directions and one large brick hit Conner. He ran out of the house with blood streaming out of the gash on his left cheek.Where had this strange thing come from? He started running for the monster had realised he was out of the house. The beast almost had him by the leg until conner put his hands up to protect himself when a huge ray of lava came streaming out of his palm and got the ghastly monster right in the centre of the pupil.  " How did I do that?" he asked himself "Never mind, just RUUUUN!"Another voice came into Conner's ears. Still very confused Conner started running as he had made he beast bring out his worst. As was running he was joined by a...a...a thing of which conner was unsure of. This thing looked human except for a couple of major features. One his ears were huge and pointing towards the sky as if they were being pulled.Two his eyes were the most majestic shade of purple. lastly he had a long tail just like a monkeys pygmy marmosets tail but with strips of blue and yellow.  He looked familiar to Conner as if he had seen him before, but where...?His video game, of course,he played it so much that he knew he was somehow in the game...the gigantic animal roared again breaking the moment of confusion. The beast looked interested in the blood on his face, a carnivore.DUH, it was PROOFENTICEARUSASAUR(proof-en-tice-a-rus-a-saur) the most deadly creature in all video games. The boy,jack,and conner ran into a nearby bush and watched the beast run past." you're not from around here are Ya"said jack catching his breath " This is a video game I have somehow entered"stated Conner"No it's not""yes it is!" They squabbled on like this for a while, in the end Jack realised Conner was right.  So the decided to seek a journey to the centre of the... Whatever this place was, to find the black hole.Conner had explained to jack that in the video game you had to collect tokens  and follow the quest trail to find the black hole which then lead them to the next level, or home in their case. As they were walking along the strangely joyful walk jack bumped into Conner" whoa " said jack with a worried"did you feel that earthquake" conner replied"Yeah " there was a long silence... suddenly a huge explosion from the top of the volcano started a meteor shower. The two boys started to run as fast as their legs could run them. As Conner was running he heard his mum,"Conner, conner" he looked up to see a huge meteoroid coming for him"LOOK OUT" screamed Jack. Conner awoke to the sound of his mum "Conner, conner ,CONNER GET UP,"his eyes a opened and a blurred vision of his mother stood before him." Conner you have school this morning, hurry up!" he sat up, where was the beast, all the beautiful trees and where was Jack... " where is everyone" he said to his mother." " I think you were having a bad dream, you were kicking and screaming and saying !JACK! all the time." "I was in my video game mum and the PROOFENTICEARUSASAUR was there." "well even if you were you need to get up now and get ready" At school he parked his bike and was just about to leave when Jack stuck his head around the corner" you did good mate,I look forward to more Grand adventures!" Conner smiled at him,Turned around and walked off knowing he was the luckiest kid in the world, well at the moment while there was no beasts chasing him... By Jenaya  25/07/2014

Faction History

Our school has 3 Factions (some people will be more familiar with the name Houses) named Coppin, Kyalina and Miaree.  Until this term Room 5 - Year 6-7 students had no idea what these Faction Names referred to.  

A general conversation early in the term came up with the idea they were names of Aboriginal elders but it was a homework research activity that came up with the correct information.

Coppin = WA water source Coppin Gap - Marble Bar

Coppin Gap provides visitors with a safe and picturesque swimming location shaded by tall native trees and framed by a spectacular rock face. Enjoy a relaxing swim in the still waters and soak up the natural scenic beauty and tranquillity. Explore the rock face of the grove with its colourful bands of rock before settling down for a well deserved picnic lunch.

Located a half hour drive north of Marble Bar, which is known to be the hottest town in Australia, the shady water hole is a great spot for a refreshing swim. The pool is shaded by the rock throughout much of the day.

A four wheel drive is recommended to explore the area. Alternatively make a stop at the Marble Bar or Port Hedland visitors centre for details about overland tours of Coppin Gap and other attractions in the area.

Coppin Gap is a two hour drive south of Port Hedland. Regular flights link Port Hedland to Perth.

Miaree = WA water source Miaree Pool

Miaree Pool is only a 20 minute drive away from Karratha in Western Australia, approximately 30 kilometres on the North West Coastal Highway. A lovely spot for swimming, Miaree Pool offers a picnic area, car parking and plenty of shady spots for relaxing on the river bank.

To get there, take the turn off located about 200 metres north of the Maitland River bridge. You will find the picturesque clear water pool just a few hundred metres east of the bridge.

Look Who IS Coming To Town

Marc McBride

Illustrator

Marc McBride has illustrated over fifty book covers and countless magazines, as well as producing artwork for advertising campaigns. He has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television Award for Best Art Director. Marc has had work exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators. Marc's influences for all his work range from tacky B-grade movies about giant ants from outer space through to the pop artists of the sixties such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and other illustrators such as H R Giger, who created the Alien and the set design for the movie Alien. Marc's soaring imagination has never been more evident than in the mind-blowing fantasy jacket art he has created for the Deltora Quest series. Marc says, ‘The medium I used for the series was acrylic paint and inks. Using an airbrush and paint brushes I created the series in quite a traditional way—that is, not digital. I feel that this more organic painting works for me in the creation of people, monsters etc. If I had been asked to create spaceships or futuristic cities perhaps I would have used a computer. Each cover took between three and five days to complete, but, like all illustrators, I always feel I would have liked to spend more time on each painting. Practical reasons, such as deadlines, other jobs, eating and sleeping, make this impossible. Nature has pattern in even the strangest of creatures and I wanted to have this in the Deltora Quest monsters, to give them some sense of reality.’
